Oculusby Jonas Van Put
OCULUS is the Latin and architectural term for a circular opening that provides light and air to a building. We translated that idea into an outdoor object. Few architectural elements have as much impact on their surroundings as a mirror. Oculus is a design object that reflects the world above from its position on the ground. The viewer’s position determines the reflection: the sky, the treetops or the surroundings appear from an unexpected perspective. With every step, the field of vision shifts. Its angle creates the illusion of a cylindrical viewing tube that seems to continue underground.
Oculus functions as a gateway between two worlds, revealing the existing surroundings from an unusual angle. The object invites you to stand still, change position and look again.
Oculus has a specially treated silver layer designed to withstand sun and rain. Its metal frame has a rusty brown finish. The mirror sits slightly recessed within the deeper frame and thus well protected all around.

Jonas Van Put
Jonas Van Put designs objects and spaces that support both personal and collective experiences. His practice moves fluidly between the studio and the workshop, where thinking and making continuously reinforce one another. By turning ideas into tangible prototypes at an early stage, he creates designs in which material, construction and use are in constant dialogue with their context.
